In remote pilot training, specific systems (drones and accessories) are usually not covered in detail, although this greatly contributes to a safe operation. Besides becoming familiar with your system, such as settings, maintenance, flight characteristics, and flight modes, it is crucial to be able to control the drone even when, for example, GPS reception is lost. For this, we offer UAS Type Training (get to know your drone) and UAS Flight Training (improve your flying skills with your system).
UAS type training
After obtaining the necessary certificates, it is important to become familiar with the system (the drone) you will be flying. For this, Dutch Drone Academy has developed UAS Type Training. This training is available for the most common systems, such as the DJI M300/350, DJI P4P RTK, all DJI Enterprise products, various DJI Inspire drones, and M600. But this training can also be used for systems from other manufacturers, such as Flyability, Autel, Walkera, Parrot, and Yuneec. During the UAS Type Training, you will use your own drone and accessories. Therefore, ensure you have enough available batteries. If needed, extra batteries can be provided by us.
In this one-day training, we cover the following topics:
General
- Review the specifications and limits as provided by the manufacturer;
- Review the general capabilities of the system;
- Review the possible and available payloads for the system;
- Review the available accessories for the system;
- Review the manufacturer’s user manual;
- Review the maintenance schedule.
Usage
- Familiarise yourself with the system you will be using on-site;
- Unpack and prepare the system for operation/flight;
- Inspect the system before the flight (preflight inspection).
Payload
- Review the specifications of the chosen payload(s);
- Review the applications of the payload(s);
- Mount and set up the payload for use.
Operation
- Review the use of the remote control (transmitter, ground station);
- Review the manufacturer’s user manual;
- Review the available intelligent flight modes and special functions;
Practical
- Review procedures and checklists
- What to monitor during the flight
- Normal flight manoeuvres
- Emergency scenarios
The training can be provided on-site (additional travel costs) or at one of our facilities. The planning of the Type Training is done in mutual consultation. Dutch Drone Academy assumes that the participant uses their own system and that it is insured by the participant. If this is not possible, we can provide both the insurance and a system (rental). Additional costs will then be charged. The one-day Type Training is given to a maximum of three pilots simultaneously. Parking and lunch are provided. The training starts at 10:00 AM and lasts until 4:00 PM.

- Practical training for the EASA specific category
- Practical training in general flying skills
- Drone practical training for filming and photography
- Drone practical training for emergency scenarios, both distant and close by
Structure
- Every initial training starts with an intake interview & simulator training to assess your skills.

RT-Practical Day (CTR-operation training)
The RT-Practical Day is specifically designed for the remote pilot who has recently completed their RT (Radio Telephony) theory and practical exam. This intensive course focuses on honing skills essential for safe and efficient communication with air traffic control during UAS operations within controlled airspace (CTR). Under the guidance of an experienced instructor, you will gain practical experience in requesting permission, preparing and executing a flight plan, and establishing an effective communication link. Making contact with air traffic control for the first time can be challenging. Under the expert guidance of our instructor, you will make your debut with confidence.
What will you learn?
- Requesting permission from air traffic control to start your UAS operation;
- Key points to consider when preparing your flight plan;
- The importance and execution of a prior phone call with operations;
- Testing and establishing a stable RT connection;
- Practical tips for a successful first communication with air traffic control;
What do I get?
- Personal guidance from an experienced instructor;
- Access to a professional mobile transmitter/receiver with antenna installation;
- Access to a UAS (Unmanned Aircraft System) for conducting the practical flight;
- Sample flight plans to get you started;
- The unique opportunity to perform a UAS flight within the Lelystad CTR.
What does it cost?
The price for this RT-Practical Day (4 hours) is €659.00 excl. 21% VAT per person.
Minimum participation: two people. Planning to be arranged in consultation.
